The plantation house of Jato Baco (sometimes called Yato Baco) can be found to the East of Kralendijk in the middle of Bonaire. This house is currently in ruins and a dirt road leads to it, it is only possible to acces by foot or by bike. The Jato Baco plantation was one of the big plantations on Bonaire in the 1800s and was famous for their modern way of processing the Aloe Vera. They had a boiler with a double-walled cooking pot that used coal to heat it up. This evaporated a great part of the Aloe juice so the remaining paste could be boxed and shipped.
This plantation house probably got abandoned around the 1930s although a supervisor would be living on the plantation in a newer house. The original house has still some nice details and color on the walls but the roof is missing, as well as some walls and all the flooring of the second floor.
